Tesla debuts Roadster with SpaceX thrusters, targets 2028 production

What's new: Tesla posted deposits of $50,000 to $250,000 for variants after a Texas demo that showed the car jumping and rotating in midair.

Tesla showed a redesigned Roadster in Texas on Oct. 15, using SpaceX-developed thrusters and a suction system in a stunt-heavy demonstration meant to revive a model delayed for years. At a SpaceX test site in McGregor, the two-seat electric sports car drove up a ramp, rotated in the air and landed with air jets, then cleared a truck in another jump. Tesla said production is set to begin in 2028, more than a decade after it first presented a next-generation Roadster. The company’s reservation page later listed a Performance model requiring a $50,000 deposit, a Thrust version requiring $250,000 and an invite-only single-seat Rocket variant with a “full flight system.”
