Teluk Wondama installs solar panels, turns cattle waste into biogas
The TEP UI program in the transmigration area also trains workers on electronic medical records and local food processing to support basic services.
The Werianggi-Werabur transmigration area in Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua, has begun using solar panels and biogas from cattle waste to extend residents' access to energy. The program run by Tim Ekspedisi Patriot Universitas Indonesia with the Ministry of Transmigration places renewable energy at the center of efforts to strengthen basic services and the local economy. In Werianggi village, solar panels at the village hall have already extended the electricity supply, while residents are also being trained to turn livestock waste into cooking fuel. The team, coordinated by Ardiyansyah, is targeting a 24-hour electricity supply. Beyond energy, TEP UI is training health workers at Puskesmas Nikiwar and Windesi to use electronic medical records and is assisting efforts to process local foods such as sago, tubers and nutmeg.
