Telkomsel restores 85% of BTS in Flores after M7.7 NTT quake

Outages are now driven mainly by blackouts; Telkomsel is offering a 3 GB emergency package for Rp1 for seven days.

TelkomGroup is speeding the restoration of telecommunications services in Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur, after the magnitude 7.7 quake on Saturday (15/8) damaged equipment and cut power in several locations. As of Sunday (16/8) at 11.00 WITA, Telkomsel said 623 of 735 site, or about 85 percent, had returned to normal operation. The company said the biggest obstacle now is power supply, so recovery still depends on electricity stability in the affected areas. TelkomGroup has deployed technical teams, additional generators, and backup backbone and links to keep services running. Telkomsel also noted that about 99 percent of home internet customers in Flores can still access service. For the emergency period, the operator has opened a 3 GB Emergency Package for Rp1 with a seven-day validity.
