Tasu’a and Asyura fast schedule differs by one day in 2026

The government and Muhammadiyah place Asyura on June 25, while PBNU places it on June 26 because the start of Muharram differs.

The schedule for the sunnah fasts of Tasu’a and Asyura in 1448 Hijriah differs by one day between the government and Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama. The Ministry of Religious Affairs set 1 Muharram for Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Based on that, Tasu’a falls on June 24 and Asyura on June 25. The Global Single Hijri Calendar used by Muhammadiyah sets the same dates. Meanwhile, the Lembaga Falakiyah PBNU set 1 Muharram for Wednesday, June 17, 2026 based on rukyatul hilal. As a result, Tasu’a falls on June 25 and Asyura on June 26. The difference stems from the determination of the start of Muharram, and Muslims are encouraged to follow the guidance they trust without disputing it.
