Taiwan races to build 210,000 drones to counter China threat

Taiwan is speeding up development of air drones and unmanned boats to prepare for a possible invasion by China. The strategy, inspired by the Russia-Ukraine war, is meant to create a “hellscape” — waves of drones, missiles and artillery designed to detect and strike invading forces before they can seize Taiwan. Lieutenant General Huang Wen-chi said drone and anti-drone capabilities are now included in the 10-day Han Kuang drills. The government aims to have more than 210,000 air and sea drones for different stages of conflict, from tracking Chinese troop movements to attacking ships in an amphibious operation. Taiwan also wants to build a domestic supply chain so it does not rely on outside suppliers if a blockade occurs.
