Taiwan offers pilot smart agriculture project in Indonesia

Taipei wants Indonesia to prepare a pilot area so smart agriculture solutions can be tested for food, jobs and exports.

Taiwan has offered to cooperate on developing a pilot smart agriculture zone in Indonesia to support food security and exports of processed products. Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-Lung made the offer at a meeting with a media delegation in Taipei on Thursday under the New Southbound Policy. Lin said Taiwan has strengths in smart agriculture technology and hopes Indonesia can prepare a pilot area so integrated solutions can be implemented. He said the scheme could help create jobs, boost exports and build related industries. In Indonesia, smart agriculture models have also been developed, including through collaboration between BRIN and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology to measure plant nutrients precisely in tropical climates.
