Sumut inaugurates 6,110 legal aid posts across villages
The legal aid posts have handled 408 cases so far, with officials urging more disputes to be settled through mediation.
The Sumatera Utara provincial government and the Ministry of Law inaugurated 6,110 Pos Bantuan Hukum in all villages and urban wards across Sumut on June 10, 2026. The number matches the total villages and urban wards in the province, widening initial access to legal services to the level closest to residents. Sumut Governor Bobby Nasution said Posbankum is intended to make it easier for vulnerable groups and low-income residents to obtain legal assistance without going through a long and complicated process. So far, Posbankum in Sumut is said to have helped resolve 408 cases. Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas urged a restorative justice approach so case resolution does not end only in punishment, but also restores social relations in the community.
