‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ hits $72 million in preview sales

What's next: Analysts expect about $270 million domestically on opening weekend, which would top 2021's “No Way Home.”

Sony and Marvel's “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” pulled in $72 million from early access and Thursday preview screenings in the United States, setting a domestic preview-sales record. That topped the previous mark of $60 million set by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019. The film, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, is projected to earn roughly $270 million in its opening weekend, which would surpass “Spider-Man: No Way Home” at $260 million but still trail “Endgame” at $357 million. The movie does not have Imax screens, which are reserved for Christopher Nolan's “The Odyssey,” but it is playing on other premium formats including Dolby Cinema, ScreenX and 4DX.
