SpaceX moves into gas trading to feed Texas plant and Starship fuel

Why it matters: The hire points to deeper vertical integration as power demand rises for its Texas chip project and rocket operations.

SpaceX is recruiting a trader to build and run a natural gas trading desk as the company expands its fuel and electricity supply operations. A job posting says the role will cover physical and financial gas trading and be based in either Cape Canaveral, Florida, or Starbase, Texas. The opening adds to SpaceX’s broader energy push. Earlier this month, the company said it planned to build its own gas-fired power plants to meet the electricity needs of a large semiconductor manufacturing facility in Texas that it is developing with Tesla. SpaceX’s Starship rocket also runs on super-chilled methane, the main component of natural gas, paired with liquid oxygen.
