Smoking power bank halted service at Buangkok MRT for 5 minutes

What's new: A police transit officer used a dry-powder extinguisher before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported.

A smoking power bank in a commuter’s backpack briefly disrupted service at Buangkok MRT station in Singapore on July 29, forcing passengers off a train and pausing service for about five minutes. SBS Transit said the incident happened at about 5 p.m. on the North East Line platform. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted at about 5:10 p.m. and found that a Public Transport Security Command officer had already used a dry-powder fire extinguisher on the bag. Videos shared online showed smoke rising from the backpack and white extinguisher residue on the platform. No injuries were reported. Authorities are investigating what caused the power bank to emit smoke.
