Slavko Vincic to Referee 2026 World Cup Final, Spain vs Argentina

He will be assisted by two fellow Slovenians, while the VAR room will be led by Bastian Dankert of Germany.

FIFA has appointed Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic to officiate the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday. Vincic will become the first Slovenian referee to work a World Cup final and the 23rd official to handle the tournament's showpiece match. The 46-year-old said he was surprised and shaken when he received the news of his appointment. Since becoming an international referee in 2010, he has officiated the 2022 Europa League final, the 2024 Champions League final and the Euro 2024 semifinal between France and Spain. At the 2026 World Cup, he has already taken charge of Brazil vs Morocco, Jordan vs Algeria and Mexico vs Ecuador. Vincic will be assisted by Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic, with Adham Makhadmeh as the fourth official. The VAR team will be led by Bastian Dankert.
