SK chairman’s divorce bill cut to $644 million by South Korean court

A South Korean court on Friday cut SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won’s divorce payment to his former wife, Roh Soh-yeong, to 944 billion won, or about $644 million. The Seoul High Court had previously set the payout at 1.38 trillion won in 2024, but the Supreme Court ordered the case reconsidered. The dispute centers on how to value the couple’s marital assets, including Chey’s stake in SK Group, parent of chipmaker SK hynix. The court said Roh was entitled to a cash payment worth one-third of the couple’s shared assets and factored in the rise in Chey’s shareholdings during the marriage. The ruling is not final, and either side may appeal again to the Supreme Court.
