Singapore urges 6%-8% raises for lower-wage workers in 2027
What's new: The guidance now covers unprofitable firms, which are still urged to give at least S$120 monthly increases.
Singapore’s National Wages Council urged employers to take a positive approach to pay increases after stronger-than-expected economic growth, including recommended raises of 6% to 8% for lower-wage workers earning up to S$2,800 a month. The guidelines cover Dec. 1, 2026, through Nov. 30, 2027, and the government has accepted them. Firms that performed well and have good prospects were encouraged to give increases at the top end of the range, or at least S$135 to S$170, whichever is higher. For the first time, the council also set guidance for firms that are unprofitable, recommending they still give lower-wage workers at least S$120. The council said uneven sector performance means employers should keep flexibility while sharing productivity gains.
