Singapore took down 500-plus fake Home Affairs agency websites
What's new: investigators found no evidence of phishing or system breaches, but the spoofed sites copied official branding and content.
Singapore authorities took down more than 500 fake websites that impersonated the Ministry of Home Affairs and seven Home Team agencies after they were detected on Aug. 10. The sites copied official branding and publicly available content from agencies including the Singapore Police Force, Central Narcotics Bureau, Singapore Civil Defence Force and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, potentially making users think they were on government pages. The ministry said all identified sites were removed by Aug. 11 and that there is no evidence so far of scams, phishing or unauthorized access to government systems. It said the source of the websites is still under investigation and urged the public to use .gov.sg addresses and the gov.sg portal for official services.
