Singapore to move all 56 MOE kindergartens to full-day model by 2030

What's next: Two pilot centers will start in 2027, with weekday hours running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during terms and holidays.

Singapore's Ministry of Education will shift all 56 MOE kindergartens to a full-day model between 2028 and 2030, combining lessons, play and care in one program. The ministry will test the model in 2027 at MK@Rivervale and MK@West View. MOE kindergartens now offer four-hour K1 and K2 classes for children ages five and six, while after-school Kindergarten Care is handled by external operators. About 65% of roughly 8,000 MOE kindergarten pupils also use KCare. Under the new setup, MOE educators and ministry-hired program officers will run services from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, with a half-day option still available. MOE said the change is meant to better support children's development and families' need for integrated preschool care.
