Singapore to expand IMH by 2040, rename it national mental health center

What's new: The government will also review parental consent rules after warning they can keep young people from getting help.

Singapore plans to redevelop and expand the Institute of Mental Health at its Buangkok site by 2040, while renaming it the National Centre for Mental Health Singapore in 2027 as demand for psychiatric care rises. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said the center will become a national specialty hub leading research and coordinating care across hospitals. Changi General Hospital, Woodlands Hospital and Alexandra Hospital are also building stronger psychiatric services. The government is also seeking public feedback on parental consent rules, amid concerns that broad requirements can deter young people from pursuing treatment and counseling.
