Singapore reshuffles Cabinet, elevates Shanmugam and new MPs

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reshuffled his Cabinet on Wednesday, promoting a new generation of officeholders while moving veteran K Shanmugam into a senior minister role. Shanmugam will keep his posts as coordinating minister for national security and home affairs minister, while labor chief Ng Chee Meng joins the Cabinet as a minister in the Prime Minister's Office. Jasmin Lau was promoted to senior minister of state and will also serve as acting manpower minister. The lineup comes 14 months after the last round of changes and follows the recent resignations of Koh Poh Koon and Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. Analysts told Channel News Asia the move shows Wong is accelerating leadership renewal and putting his own stamp on Singapore's next-generation team.
