Singapore pulled 3 food products over hidden tadalafil, steroid and laxative

Why it matters: One honey product sold mainly online carried tadalafil, which can trigger dangerously low blood pressure in some heart patients.

Singapore’s food regulator ordered sellers to stop offering three products after tests found medicinal substances that are not allowed in food. The Singapore Food Agency said B Solution Honey (Liquid) from Malaysia contained tadalafil, a prescription drug for erectile dysfunction; Jus Tuan Haji 1921 from Malaysia contained dexamethasone; and Shaio-Ge Xian Li 365 S1 Botanical Beverage Mix Barley Seedling Powder from Taiwan contained sennosides. The agency said the items were sold mainly on e-commerce platforms and that listings were removed. It warned consumers not to consume the products and to seek medical advice if they have concerns. SFA said tadalafil can cause serious effects including heart attack, stroke and potentially life-threatening low blood pressure in people taking nitrates.
