Singapore program gives 3,000 residents S$500 in warm meal credits
Why it matters: The yearlong plan uses 30 food lockers near rental blocks to deliver about 165,000 halal-certified meals from September.
More than 3,000 lower-income residents in Singapore's Tampines, Punggol and Pasir Ris-Changi areas will receive free warm meals from nearby food lockers starting in September under a new yearlong program. Warm Meals @ North East will cover about 1,000 households, with each getting S$500 in meal credits, or roughly 165 meals, funded by OCBC and the North East Community Development Council. The meals can be redeemed through the Ami App at about 30 lockers near HDB rental blocks during lunch and dinner windows. Organizers said Chang Cheng Group will supply fresh halal-certified meals, with more than 50 menu items rotated over time.
