Singapore meal-locker program gives 3,000 residents S$500 in credits

Why it matters: The yearlong S$500,000 effort targets 1,000 lower-income households with about 165,000 halal-certified meals.

More than 3,000 lower-income residents in Singapore's Tampines, Punggol and Pasir Ris-Changi areas will receive free warm meals from nearby food lockers starting in September under a new yearlong program. Warm Meals @ North East will provide 1,000 households with S$500 in digital meal credits, enough for about 165 meals each, redeemable by QR code at roughly 30 lockers near HDB rental blocks. OCBC and the North East Community Development Council are funding the S$500,000 initiative, with meals supplied by Chang Cheng Group. Organizers said the halal-certified menu will rotate across more than 50 options, and meals will be available at lunch and dinner.
