Singapore man gets 21 years for raping 13-year-old niece

A 38-year-old Singaporean man was sentenced Monday to 21 years in jail and 16 strokes of the cane for sexually abusing his 13-year-old niece over nearly two years. He pleaded guilty to six charges including statutory rape, sexual assault and threatening to distribute intimate images, while 17 other charges were considered in sentencing. Court documents said he drew closer to the girl after her 13th birthday in September 2022, then had sex with her repeatedly at his home and during a 2023 hotel staycation. Prosecutors said he used sex toys and bondage items including a blindfold, feather and rope, and later threatened to upload nude photos and videos when she started dating a schoolmate. He cannot be identified under a gag order protecting the victim.
