Singapore, Malaysia push deeper cooperation on energy, food security

Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim agreed during Tharman’s state visit to deepen bilateral cooperation in food security and energy, Singapore’s foreign ministry said. Tharman also met Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, and discussed expanding work in renewable energy, sustainable development and people-to-people ties. Both sides cited progress on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link, the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, supply chain resilience and connectivity. In talks with Anwar, they also exchanged views on the Middle East and stressed the need to uphold international law, especially the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and protect freedom of navigation.
