Singapore haze turns unhealthy islandwide as PSI hits 154

What's next: Forecasters see PSI at 80 to 130 on Oct. 25, with southwest winds and showers likely to ease smoke from Sumatra.

Air quality in Singapore deteriorated overnight on Oct. 24, pushing the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index into the unhealthy range across all five regions. By 10pm, PSI readings stood between 108 and 154, with the highest level in the west, while hourly PM2.5 readings were elevated across the island at 59 to 92. The National Environment Agency said smoke haze from Sumatra was drifting toward Singapore and was also visible over Kalimantan. The agency forecast moderate to unhealthy conditions on Oct. 25, with PSI at 80 to 130, but said southwest or westerly winds and expected showers could limit smoke transport and improve conditions over the next few days. Singapore has faced unhealthy air since Oct. 5, apart from a brief improvement on Oct. 23.
