Singapore haze pushes PSI above 100 across island for a second day

What's new: Central Singapore hit 133 on Oct. 7 as smoke from fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra kept PM2.5 elevated.

Unhealthy haze blanketed all of Singapore again on Oct. 7, with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index rising above 100 in every region by noon. The central region reached 133, while the west was at 124, the east 123, the south 103 and the north 101. Hourly PM2.5 readings also stayed in the elevated band across the island. Singapore’s National Environment Agency forecast air quality in the high-moderate to mid-unhealthy range as east-southeasterly to southeasterly winds carried smoke from dry areas of Kalimantan and central and southern Sumatra. The highest PSI reading this year was 167 in central Singapore on Sept. 29.
