Singapore GovTech cuts 38 more jobs in second layoff round

What's next: A third round is due by mid-2027 as GovTech reshapes up to 9% of its workforce and shifts more core tech work in-house.

Singapore's Government Technology Agency cut 38 staff in the second of three planned layoff rounds, bringing total retrenchments since July to 131. GovTech said the affected roles were mainly tied to traditional project delivery as it reorganizes to build and run more critical digital systems in-house. Of 250 officers reviewed in this phase, 106 will stay in their current roles and 106 can move into conversion or apprenticeship pathways. The agency said the two-year exercise will affect 7% to 9% of its roughly 3,900 permanent and contract staff across 23 government agencies. A final round is expected in mid-2027. GovTech said it is working with public-sector workforce agencies and the Amalgamated Union of Statutory Board Employees on career coaching, job matching and placement help.
