Singapore forms specialist panel to investigate firms tied to haze fires
What’s new: Companies identified by the government will have to hire panel experts to audit operations, supply chains and group structures.
Singapore will set up a specialist panel of law, audit and investigative firms to examine companies that may be responsible for fires in Indonesia that sent haze across the city-state. The Ministry of Law said the panel will conduct cross-border inquiries into firms’ operations, supply chains and corporate relationships to determine whether they caused or condoned the fires.
Companies identified by the government will be required to engage professionals from the panel and give full access to relevant information. Davinder Singh Chambers has been appointed to help coordinate the work. The findings will be reviewed by government agencies and the Attorney-General’s Chambers, while the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the National Environment Agency are also pursuing the matter.
