Singapore expands crow cull after more than 500 birds shot

What's new: NParks plans to add Bukit Panjang, Marine Parade and Tanah Merah after operations in nine districts began in March.

Singapore will expand crow shooting to more districts after culling more than 500 birds since operations resumed in March, the National Parks Board said Friday. New areas include Bukit Panjang, Marine Parade and Tanah Merah, chosen for large crow populations, resistance to traps and site conditions suitable for safe shooting. Operations had already been carried out in nine districts by June, including Bishan, Jurong and Yishun. NParks said house crows are an invasive species that threaten native biodiversity and can attack people when protecting their young. The agency said shooters must follow strict safety controls, including firing pellets upward, after crow shooting had been halted in 2020 when pellets hit nearby homes.
