Singapore delays iJooz straw teen’s plea as ICA reviews pass
What’s next: Didier Gaspard Owen Maximilien is due back in court July 30, and the immigration review could shape the prosecution’s sentencing position.
A Singapore court adjourned the guilty plea of French student Didier Gaspard Owen Maximilien while prosecutors seek guidance from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority on whether a conviction could cost him his student pass. The 19-year-old had been set to plead guilty July 13 but is now expected back in court on July 30. He faces one charge of mischief and one of public nuisance over a March 12 stunt at Goldhill Centre on Thomson Road, where he allegedly filmed himself licking a straw from an iJooz vending machine and putting it back. The video later spread on social media, and iJooz replaced all 500 straws in the dispenser.
