Singapore court shifts X defamation fight with Media Matters to US
What's next: A Texas trial over the same 2023 article is scheduled for March 2027, while X's Singapore unit sought US$26 million in lost ad revenue.
Singapore's High Court halted a defamation and malicious falsehood suit brought by X Asia Pacific against Media Matters for America, ruling the dispute should be heard in the United States. The case centers on a November 2023 article alleging ads from brands including Apple and IBM appeared beside pro-Nazi content on X. Judicial Commissioner Low Siew Ling found the claims were arguable, but said the US was clearly the more appropriate forum because the article was written and published there, X is operated from the US, and most witnesses and evidence are based there. X's Singapore unit, formerly Twitter Asia Pacific, had sought US$26 million in lost advertising revenue. Parallel proceedings are already underway in Texas and Ireland.
