Singapore commits S$800 million to transport R&D over 5 years

Why it matters: About S$530 million will fund autonomy and digital twins for ports, airports and logistics as labor constraints tighten.

Singapore will invest S$800 million over the next five years in transport research and innovation as it pushes to protect its role as a global transport and logistics hub. Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow set out the plan in Parliament on July 7 during a debate on strengthening connectivity. The funding falls under the National Research Foundation’s RIE 2030 program and more than doubles prior investment levels. About two-thirds, or roughly S$530 million, will go to autonomy and digital twins across the port, airport and logistics network. Officials said the work could support automated rail depots, AI-enabled air traffic management and new testing and certification frameworks for autonomous vehicles and unmanned aircraft.
