Singapore charges 22-year-old in pump attendant's death

Singapore prosecutors charged a 22-year-old man after a petrol station attendant died from injuries suffered when the driver allegedly reversed abruptly at an Esso station on Upper Changi Road North. Police said Ray Png AZ struck the 69-year-old worker with the open driver’s-side door at about 3:55 a.m. on Aug. 6, causing him to fall and hit his head. The attendant died in hospital on Aug. 7. Investigators said Png had no valid license, was driving a deregistered and uninsured vehicle, and fled with a 22-year-old female passenger after abandoning the car. Both were arrested later that day. The woman is being investigated for suspected drug consumption and abetting traffic offenses. Png’s pre-trial conference is set for Aug. 28.
