Singapore audit flags 136 lapses, including HDB grant errors
What's new: auditors found possible HDB overpayments of S$9.7 million and MOE filed a police report over suspected falsified emails.
Singapore’s Auditor-General flagged 136 findings across government agencies, including ineligible applicants receiving HDB flats, housing grants and season parking, according to a report presented to Parliament. Checks on more than 37,700 approved HDB applications found dozens that did not meet proximity or income rules, with grants totaling S$470,000 affected. The audit also found HDB may have overpaid a carpark patrol contractor by S$9.7 million for work not performed. Elsewhere, the Ministry of Education lodged a police report after possible falsified approval emails were uncovered in officer appointments, while the Ministry of Manpower overcharged foreign worker levies by about S$4.82 million and plans refunds.
