Silmy Karim charged in Rp168.9 billion foreign stay permit extortion case
Prosecutors also included Rp2.56 billion in gratuities and Rp31.38 billion in shares in the opening trial at PN Tipikor Jakarta.
Former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim was charged with extorting foreign nationals applying for stay permits worth Rp168.9 billion in the opening trial at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (29/10). Prosecutors said the scheme was carried out with several immigration officials by delaying, pending, or accelerating immigration documents, then collecting “click money” or “counter money” from service brokers. The indictment also listed gratuities in the form of Rp2.56 billion in cash and Rp31.38 billion in shares under Silmy Karim's name. According to prosecutors, the cash payments were recorded as operational funds for the deputy minister, while the share purchases were made through several securities firms and were not reported to the KPK within 30 working days. The case stemmed from a KPK sting operation tied to the handling of WNA stay permits in the 2022–2026 period.
