Israeli strikes in Lebanon kill 47 in a single day
The toll rose to 97 injured as the strikes spread to Nabatieh, Tyre, Bint Jbeil, Jezzine and Baalbek.
At least 47 people were killed and 97 others injured in intensive Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon on Friday, from midnight through the afternoon local time. Latest data from Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center showed the strikes hit southern and eastern Lebanon, including the districts of Nabatieh, Tyre, Bint Jbeil, Jezzine and Baalbek.
Earlier, Lebanese health authorities reported at least 18 dead and 33 injured in the first wave of strikes in residential areas of southern Lebanon, mainly in Harouf, Sharqieh, Kfar Sir, Kfar Remmen and Kfar Tebnit around Nabatieh. The continuing strikes were also reported to be hindering rescue and evacuation efforts.
The strikes came despite a U.S.-Iran understanding that was said to include a halt to military operations in Lebanon. At the same time, Channel 12 Israel reported that an Israeli official said Israel and Hizbullah had reached a ceasefire agreement.
