Senators press Pentagon over USS Lincoln's 250-day deployment

Lawmakers are pressing the Pentagon over conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln after the aircraft carrier spent more than 250 days at sea on an extended deployment. Reports cited by Sen. Richard Blumenthal described shortages of basic supplies, possible water contamination, broken plumbing, deck safety concerns and disruptions that left care packages missing for months. The ship carries about 5,000 people. The carrier left California in November, deployed first to the South China Sea and then to the Middle East before attacks on Iran in February. Its mission was supposed to end in May but was extended repeatedly. BBC's US partner CBS reported a sailor went overboard earlier this month, was recovered and transferred off the ship. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disputed the accounts, while reports said the USS George Washington is being readied to replace the Lincoln.
