Secret Service logged 10,000 threat cases in 2026, up 40%

The U.S. Secret Service said it has handled about 10,000 threat-related cases involving its protectees so far in 2026, a 40% increase from the same period last year. Director Sean Curran called the current threat environment the most challenging of his 24-year career. Officials said threats against figures including President Donald Trump, Supreme Court justices and other public officials are rising in both volume and complexity. Deputy Director Matt Quinn also warned that drones pose a real and growing danger, saying the agency has expanded anti-drone defenses at the White House and other protected sites. The briefing came ahead of Friday's rescheduled White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington.
