Second wave of school orientation starts at 65 Sekolah Rakyat sites
The program for children from poor families targets more than 4 million school-age children in Indonesia who are now out of school.
The second wave of the School Environment Introduction period at 65 Sekolah Rakyat schools began simultaneously on Friday, July 31, with a virtual opening from Jakarta by Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf. In Wonosobo, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono attended the in-person opening at Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi 1. The Sekolah Rakyat program is one of President Prabowo Subianto's initiatives for children from poor and extremely poor families, including those who have dropped out of school. Saifullah Yusuf said more than 4 million school-age children in Indonesia are currently not in school. MPLS is being carried out in four phases because of readiness of facilities, child safety and comfort, and verification of basic utilities such as clean water, electricity, and sanitation. Schools are also required to be free of bullying, physical and sexual violence, and intolerance.
