Samsung Q2 profit jumps 19-fold as AI memory demand powers record

What's new: Samsung posted 89.49 trillion won in operating profit, beat estimates and rose 1.6% in early Seoul trading.

Samsung Electronics reported a record second-quarter operating profit of 89.49 trillion won, up about 19-fold from a year earlier, as strong demand for AI memory chips lifted its core semiconductor business. Revenue rose 130% to 171.49 trillion won, roughly in line with company guidance and slightly below analyst expectations cited by LSEG. Shares gained 1.6% early Thursday in Seoul. Samsung said AI server demand drove record DRAM and NAND sales, while shipments of high-bandwidth memory also expanded. The company said it increased HBM4 sales and sent HBM4E samples to major customers. The results follow another strong quarter from rival SK hynix and reinforce expectations that spending on AI data centers will keep supporting advanced memory demand in the second half.
