Sam Neill, 'Jurassic Park' star, dies in Sydney at 78
What's new: Neill's family said his death was sudden and unexpected, and that he had remained cancer-free after treatment for lymphoma.
Sam Neill, the New Zealand actor whose career stretched from art-house films to Hollywood blockbusters including "Jurassic Park" and "The Piano," died Monday in Sydney at 78. A statement posted on his social media page by his family described the death as sudden and unexpected and said he died surrounded by relatives. No cause of death was given. Neill revealed in 2023 that he had angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but his family said he was cancer-free when he died. Over more than five decades, Neill became one of the best-known actors to emerge from the Australian and New Zealand film industries, with credits including "My Brilliant Career," "Dead Calm," "The Tudors" and "Jurassic World Dominion."
