Said Iqbal pushes 0% JHT tax, to meet Purbaya Wednesday
He argues JHT is workers' savings, so retirement benefits should be paid in full rather than reduced by taxes.
The dispute over taxes on BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's Jaminan Hari Tua (JHT) continues. President's special adviser for labor and workers' welfare, Said Iqbal, is pushing for the JHT tax rate to be cut to 0 percent and has scheduled a meeting with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, to seek a solution, including on progressive taxes. According to Iqbal, JHT is essentially workers' savings collected from contributions during their working years. He said the benefit paid at retirement or after termination should remain intact so the social protection function for workers and their families is not reduced.
