Ryanair flight returned after window blew out, injuring 61-year-old

What's new: Greek and international investigators are examining whether engine debris shattered the window and triggered decompression.

A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, turned back shortly after takeoff after a cabin window dislodged in flight, leaving a 61-year-old Serbian passenger seriously injured. His wife, Svetlana Grković Maksimović, said he was pulled head-first toward the opening and that she and two other passengers dragged him back inside. Tracking data showed the plane climbed for about 10 minutes before dropping 9,000 feet and returning to Thessaloniki. Greek media and airport sources said a piece of the right engine may have broken off and smashed the window, but investigators have not confirmed that. Boeing, the NTSB and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency are involved in the inquiry led by North Macedonia.
