Russia released former U.S. Marine Robert Gilman on Tuesday after more than four years in custody, sending the 32-year-old American back to the United States for treatment. U.S. officials said President Vladimir Putin approved a humanitarian pardon, and Gilman boarded a State Department plane from Russia to Washington Dulles before an expected transfer to a rehabilitation center in San Antonio, Texas. Gilman had been jailed since 2022 in Voronezh on charges tied to altercations with police and prison staff.
