Russia’s Supreme Court barred Yabloko from running in September’s parliamentary election, knocking the country’s only registered anti-war party off the State Duma ballot. The case was brought by the pro-Kremlin Rodina party, and the court granted its request to cancel Yabloko’s federal candidate list. Supporters gathered outside the Moscow courthouse and chanted “Shame!” after the ruling. Yabloko leader Nikolay Rybakov said the party would appeal. The party had campaigned on calls for a ceasefire and peace talks over Ukraine, but it had already faced mounting pressure, including the disqualification of some candidates and a recent cyberattack after launching a donations drive.
