Rp5 million electric motorbike incentive stalled by Finance Ministry rule

The Industry Ministry says it is ready to roll out the program, but launch timing and eligible brands still await the PMK.

A program to provide about Rp5 million in incentives for each electric motorbike purchase has not started because the Finance Ministerial Regulation has not yet been issued. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the Ministry of Industry is technically ready, but implementation depends on rules from the Finance Ministry. He also has not confirmed when the incentive will take effect. According to Agus, the selection of electric motorbike brands eligible for the incentive is being discussed by a team involving the Ministry of Industry, Danantara Indonesia, and the Finance Ministry. Earlier, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa proposed that the incentive apply in 2026. Initial studies point to a subsidy of about Rp5 million per unit, with an initial target variously described in sources as about 6 million units in stages or 100 thousand units in the first phase.
