Riyadh airport strike kills 12 as Houthis warn off Saudi flights

Why it matters: The airport remained shut and the escalation could widen the Yemen fight, with Washington weighing direct strikes.

A strike on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport killed 12 people and wounded more than 300, Saudi authorities said, marking the deadliest attack on the kingdom in more than a decade. The Houthis warned airlines, travelers and airport workers to avoid Saudi airports and airspace, calling them vulnerable to further attack, while exempting Mecca and Medina. The airport stayed temporarily closed after the blast, the third attack on Riyadh airport in a week. The dead included four Saudis, two Bangladeshis and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. The escalation comes as Saudi Arabia increases military action in Yemen and as President Donald Trump weighs whether the United States will join strikes on the Houthis.
