RI, Thailand form joint investigation to combat online scam

The two countries will also track cross-border money flows and speed the repatriation of victims through the TRM mechanism.

Indonesia and Thailand agreed to strengthen efforts against transnational crime, including online scam, through information sharing, intelligence cooperation and joint investigations. President Prabowo Subianto conveyed the agreement after meeting Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Istana Merdeka in Jakarta on Monday, August 3. Beyond joint investigations, the two countries will intensify monitoring of financial flows and law enforcement coordination to dismantle cross-border networks. Prabowo also urged the development of a transnational referral mechanism to speed protection, identification and repatriation of victims. Thailand has helped facilitate the return of nearly 1.000 WNI who were victims of online fraud, while Anutin said the total has exceeded 1.000 people since last year.
