Reid Hoffman to leave Microsoft board after nearly 10 years

What's next: The LinkedIn co-founder will stay on until Microsoft's annual meeting as he shifts focus to AI drug startup Manas.

Reid Hoffman will leave Microsoft's board at the end of the year after deciding not to seek reelection, ending a tenure that began in 2017 after Microsoft bought LinkedIn for $27 billion. Microsoft disclosed the move in a Friday filing and said Hoffman will remain a director until the company's annual meeting. Hoffman, 58, said on a podcast with CEO Satya Nadella that he needs to return to "founder mode" and concentrate on Manas, an AI-focused biopharmaceutical startup he co-founded. Hoffman also backed OpenAI in its early days and left that board in 2023 as Microsoft's ties to OpenAI deepened. He is also a Greylock partner and previously co-founded Inflection with Mustafa Suleyman, who now leads Microsoft AI.
