Norway's King Harald V dies at 89 in Oslo

The palace said Harald died peacefully at 06.35 at Oslo University Hospital after 10 days in treatment.

Norway's King Harald V died on Friday (28/8) at the age of 89 after being treated in critical condition at Oslo University Hospital. The Royal Palace of Norway said Harald died peacefully at 06.35 a.m. The day before, the palace said the king's condition was very serious because of hemolytic anemia, a disorder in which red blood cells break down faster than the body can replace them. Harald had been hospitalized since 17 August and earlier had fluid buildup linked to cortisone treatment, amid a series of health problems in recent years, including a pacemaker. During his treatment, Crown Prince Haakon served as regent, while Queen Sonja and the royal family canceled their schedules.
