QRIS can now be used in China, boosting RI-China transactions
Chinese visitors can now pay in Indonesia through Alipay, with WeChat potentially coming next.
Indonesia's digital payment system, Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard, or QRIS, can now be used in China. Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong said the move opens a new channel for cross-border transactions and strengthens economic ties between the two countries' people. He said visitors from China can come to Indonesia using Alipay for shopping, while WeChat could follow in the next stage. Wang also cited this week's visit by the Governor of Bank Indonesia to China and a planned trip by Indonesia's Finance Minister next week as signs of deeper financial-sector communication. He said RI-China cooperation, long centered on infrastructure and minerals, could expand into tourism, education, agriculture, AI, the digital economy and high technology.
