PVMBG records 18 Anak Krakatau eruptions since July 2; alert stays

As of Sunday no new eruption had been recorded, but a 3 km exclusion zone around the active crater remains in force for residents, tourists and fishermen.

Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi recorded 18 eruptions at Gunung Anak Krakatau in Selat Sunda since July 2, 2026, while the volcano remained at Level III, or Siaga. After four consecutive eruptions on Friday afternoon, monitoring through Sunday found no new eruption. Rio Bonik Situmorang, officer at the Anak Krakatau observation post, said the volcano’s activity remained volatile; seismicity can rise and then ease. The last eruption recorded by instruments occurred the previous night at about 23.34 WIB. Observation reports also showed the volcano was often covered by fog, with white crater smoke rising 20-50 meters when visible. PVMBG continues to bar residents, tourists and fishermen from activity within a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater while maintaining 24-hour monitoring.
